About Army ROTC

What is ROTC?

The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program trains students to become commissioned officers in the United States Army. Classroom instruction, physical fitness and practical exercises are used to develop college students into leaders, capable of leading their fellow Americans efficiently and effectively. College students enrolled in Army ROTC learn how to succeed in any competitive environment.

Army ROTC teaches military science both in the classroom and through laboratory instruction. Class meets several times a week, and is coordinated at the registrar’s office into a student’s academic schedule. The Leadership Laboratory is a weekly two-hour period of practical instruction integral to the military science curriculum. The objective is to provide practical experience supporting lessons learned in the classroom to enhance leadership, physical fitness, and military skills training.

What makes University of Idaho AROTC stand out from the rest?

At U of I, we teach Cadets what it takes to be an effective, capable and adaptive leader in both the military and civilian world and have both in our alumni ranks. In addition to our ROTC curriculum, we also offer opportunities to participate in the Ranger Challenge, Color Guard, and other unique activities.

With the training our students receive not only within our Army ROTC department and in the Corps of Cadets, our goal and purpose is to prepare our students to be the next military and civilian leaders of our nation.
