Application to Third Year

Continuing and transfer students in the Architecture Program complete an application process between their second and third years to ensure that they are prepared to advance in the curriculum.

Deadline

Friday May 9th, 2025, by 11:59pm.

Eligibility

Admission to the professional architecture program is based on a careful review of the portfolio, satisfaction of prerequisites and grade point average (GPA). The Architecture Admissions Committee carefully reviews all applications and makes recommendations based on approximately 50% for the portfolio and 50% for GPA.

The minimum GPA considered for admission is 2.5.

Portfolio Requirements

All students who have completed the pre‐professional program or equivalent and are applying for admission to the professional program must submit a portfolio of interior architecture and design, architectural graphics and design, art, and other relevant design work.

  • Format: 8 ½” x 11” (8 MB max) DIGITAL PDF.
  • Length: Up to 20 pages.
  • Contents: The goal of the portfolio is to provide a balanced presentation of the full range of creative work accomplished in preparation for admission to the professional architecture program. Work should include examples of at least six different projects. For students enrolled at the University of Idaho, this work should come from the required program courses. Transfer students should include examples from equivalent courses.

Optional Statement

You may include a one-page personal statement to explain any exceptional circumstances to be considered by the committee.

Please note the following

Registering for third year studios: You will not be able to enroll for Arch 353 until you have been admitted into the third year professional program. In order to satisfy financial aid requirements for full‐time status, it is recommended that you register for additional coursework to fulfill the number of credits required and change the courses once admitted to the third year.

Transfer Students: Transfer students must apply to and be admitted to the University of Idaho prior to admission to the professional program. Official transcripts are reviewed for placement in the appropriate courses.
