Information

It is the Facilities Department’s responsibility to provide access while on campus in the safest, most efficient and environmentally responsible manner possible. Facilities directors monitor weather conditions seven days a week and work with employees to address potential weather concerns. This information is used in conjunction with weather forecasts to schedule appropriate staffing starting times in order to keep campus safe. If snow has fallen overnight, plowing typically begins at 4 a.m.

Snow removal employees are assigned to specific types of equipment with unique areas of responsibility. Snow removal typically begins on the west side of campus. In the event of severe weather, snow removal areas will be prioritized and staffed in the following order:

  1. Primary pedestrian routes, roads and parking lots
  2. Secondary pedestrian routes
  3. Accessible ramps and entries
  4. Fire hydrants, storm drains and secondary access will be cleared following storm

Building entrances are cleared and maintained by Custodial Services staff assigned to that building during normal working hours. Parking and Transportation Services assists with snow removal in residential parking lots.

During snowy winter conditions, please note parking between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. with Overnight / Early Morning (OE) and/or Gold permits is only allowed in certain areas. Please refer to the Snowy Conditions Overnight Parking Map for these locations.
