The Palouse Project

At University of Idaho, we are committed to providing our students with innovative educational opportunities that instill the values of social, economic and ecological sustainability. The Palouse Project, an annual curriculum workshop, is tailored to U of I faculty who are interested in integrating sustainability values and education into their courses. The Palouse Project is open to faculty from all disciplines and departments to increase opportunities for learning about sustainability in our community.

What to Expect

Faculty members who register for the Palouse Project will delve into the core concepts of sustainability, explore its relevance within our region and campus and gain insights into its ecological, economic and social dimensions. Faculty participants will be guided through a step-by-step process of incorporating sustainability ideas and values into their courses from a transdisciplinary perspective. Faculty will then prepare course materials on their own over the summer.

Certificate Inclusion

Upon completion of the Palouse Project workshop, faculty are encouraged to propose their revised courses for inclusion in the U of I Sustainability Certificate — a 12-credit multidisciplinary program open to students in any program across the university. This workshop aims to assist faculty in preparing their sustainability course proposals and aligning their courses with the certificate’s requirements and learning objectives.

Recognition and Reward

Along with inclusion in the Sustainability Certificate, faculty who complete the Palouse Project will receive a $300 cash stipend for their commitment to cultivating an ecologically sound, economically prosperous and equitable society for current and future generations.
