Sick and Annual Leave

Accrual rates for sick leave and Classified/Exempt annual leave are set by Title 67 of Idaho state law.

Sick Leave

Employees who work at least half-time and whose jobs are expected to last five months or longer accrue sick leave at the rate of .0462 hours for each hour worked. This is equivalent to 3.7 hours per pay period for full-time service. Sick leave for half-time but less than full-time work is accrued proportionately. For more information about sick leave, including when it may be used, please see Faculty-Staff Handbook Section 3710 C.

Annual Leave

Benefit-eligible employees accrue annual leave (paid vacation leave) at rates dependent on their employment classification. The university’s policy is found in the Faculty-Staff Handbook Section 3710 B.

Academic Year Faculty

Faculty with an academic year appointment do not accrue annual leave, as they are expected to take leave during breaks in the academic cycle.

Fiscal Year Faculty/Non-Faculty Exempt Employees

Employees in these groups who are on full-time, fiscal year appointments accrue annual leave at the rate of 7.4 hours per pay period (24 days per year), and may accumulate a maximum of 30 days.

Classified Employees

Hourly employees who work at least half-time and whose job is expected to last five months or longer earn annual leave. Accrual rates increase based on years of service. Annual leave for half-time but less than full-time work is accrued proportionally.
